Things that we are trying to work on
% of parents don’t agree that the school informs them about their child’s progress. Although this figure is the same as last year - we are sure that we can do better! During the autumn and spring term parents' evenings, the teaching staff explain about your child's progress and written reports are given twice a year. Teaching staff also try to communicate regularly via the homework diary. We are looking into how we can provide more regular information about progress (both academic and pastoral), possibly using technology to aid us. More about this to follow.
% of parents don’t agree that the communication from the class teacher to parents/carers is good – this is far less than last year so we are moving in the right direction! Hopefully once the weekly MyVLE updates have been running for a while parents and carers will feel that communication is better in this respect. We would welcome your comments as this progresses.
% of parents don’t feel fully informed about their child’s learning and know how to support them at home – From discussions with staff, many parents are concerned about the way that schools now teach maths and how it is completely different to how they were taught. We hope that the addition of the new 'parent/carer-friendly' Calculation Policy' (now downloadable from the policy page) will help this. In addition, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you are unsure about how you can support their learning at home. We will be happy to help.
% of parents don’t know what their child’s targets are – however, this is far less than last year so we are moving in the right direction! All children's targets are shared in their homework diaries and are updated regularly. Please refer to this or your child's teacher for more details.
